Believe it or not, there are . Simply by choosing the right foods you can add additional benefits to your weight loss program. I think most people have heard something like this before. But what they may not know is what are the ?

Here are some of the : broccoli, dark turkey meat, grape juice, eggs, potatoes, oranges, and green beans. So why are these foods better than others at boosting your metabolism? What is it about a cup of broccoli that can help your body shed fat faster than eating celery. Well, the magic component of broccoli is the essential nutrient chromium.

Chromium was identified in the nineteen forties as a nutrient in certain . What chromium does is play an important role in helping metabolize carbohydrates that are eaten. Without the essential nutrient chromium in your body, insulin will not be able to work as effectively. We all know that insulin is is required to help the body regulate blood sugar levels.

When you eat a meal, your pancreas secretes insulin so that glucose from the foods eaten will be transported to the cells of your body so they have the energy needed to to their job. Chromium plays a very important role in helping the process of stabilizing blood sugar. When you have eratic blood sugar levels you can never metabolize fat properly; the fat you so desperately want to burn off!

In research studies it was noticed that those weight loss subjects who had increased levels of chromium in their diet, and of course I am referring to the good chromium, not the bad hexavalent six chromium found in some water sources, showed increased lean muscle mass, where as those who did not actually lost lean muscle mass.

So how can you increase beneficial chromium in your diet? One way is to eat the , the ones that I listed earlier, and the other is to supplement so you are sure you are getting enough in your system. Then the question you might be asking is how do I know how much should I take? If one cup of broccoli has approximately 20mcg of the essential food nutrient chromium, how much would it take to meet your daily needs? That would require the average person to eat six cups of broccoli!

That's probably unreasonable for most people, unless of course you are on a raw diet, but broccoli combined with other whole foods can get you close to the 100 - 200mcg you need a day to allow your body to effectively manage blood sugar levels and burn fat, not muscle.

So, look for the essential nutrient chromium in and you will be doing your best to help your body burn fat while feeding your muscles. Also, seek out a good supplement containing around sixty percent of the daily requirement to fill the gaps in your daily eating plan.
