Obesity Can Leave People With Permanent And Life Altering Conditions

There are many factors when it comes to choosing the right stairlift for your household. All of which need to be considered before any purchase is made as it could result in extra expense further down the line.

Does the user have a progressive condition? This is very important as it will effect whether or not a stairlift should even be purchased in the first place. For example, the user may be able to get onto a stairlift and ride to the top, but if they lose that ability and require a wheelchair, a through-floor lift will be necessary in order to appropriately accommodate the user's needs.

Can the user bend their knees easily? If the stairlift user cannot bend their knees comfortably then a standing stairlift is obviously the best option. This means that the user can go up and down their stairs in maximum comfort. But equally, if the user requires a wheelchair, do they have the ability to get on and off the stairlift into their wheelchairs with ease.

Who needs to operate the stairlift and are they able to do this? The controls of a stairlift should be fully explained to the user so that they have their independence in being able to go where they want. However, sometimes it's necessary for a carer to operate a stairlift for the user, in which case they need controls at both ends of the staircase. This can be assessed by surveyors that should come out before a stairlift is purchased. Companies such as Oakland Stairlifts give this service to every customer for free and then present every option available.

Who else has to use the staircase? This question doesn't pose as much of a problem as the others, but is still a deciding factor when learning how to choose a stairlift that will work around an entire household. Dogs, cats, children and adults will all be running up and down the stairs when the stairlift isn't in use. Because of this it is important to choose a stairlift that will fold away enough to allow everyone up and down the stairs safely. Most companies have a range of brands that can each individually accommodate different user requirements.

Choosing a stairlift is a turning point in life, and by considering all of the factors above hopefully finding the right one will be made a little bit easier.
