Bad Foods?

by Eva Walzin Health / Weight Loss    (submitted 2012-01-27)

Everyone has faced the temptation of foods that are bad for us. They seem to be everywhere we turn. Restaurants and grocery stores put the desert counter right in front of our faces. It can be hard to turn away from. But the good news is, you may not have to turn from all your favorites after all. Some of these so called "bad foods" can actually be healthy for you. Most of these foods just tend to get a bad reputation. Here are some foods that were previously thought to be bad but can actually help you lose weight.
Eggs have lately been on the list of things to avoid. But in reality they can help you lose weight because they are filling and contain a lot of protein. It takes time to digest all of it so it prevents in between meal snacking. Red meat is another food and it has a similar reason. Just make sure that it's a lean cut of meat that's not packed with fat. And as with everything else, keep the portions to a reasonable size. Whole grain pasta can also keep your weight down. It's better for you than the processed kind and may even promote fat burning.
Nuts are heavy with good kinds of fat that help keep you full. Studies have also shown that they have lots of nutrients and fiber which can regulate your digestive system and blood sugar levels. Dairy foods have also gotten the shaft when it comes to dieting but often times, people lose out on the calcium they contain. Some scientists believe that your body works harder at burning fat when it's getting enough calcium, not to mention all the other benefits that calcium has. Last of all, everyone's favorite beverage may not be as bad as it seems. Black coffee has been shown to give your metabolism a jump start without a whole lot of calories or fat. But it's only black coffee that has those benefits. When you start adding cream and sugar, it cancels out all the good factors of coffee.
These are just some of the foods that have hidden qualities that can be good for you. But the bottom line is, all foods can be eaten without major consequences so long as you eat them in moderation. Keep portion sizes small and foods with loads of sugar to a rare treat. When you go overboard and binge on the sweet stuff, that's when the repercussions start to kick in. As long as you use good judgment, you can eat whatever you want while keeping your weight to a minimum.
