Can The Benefit Of Coconut Oil Conquer My Sugar Cravings?

Two new friends (both thin) bumped into me at a local furniture store. Not surprising to anyone that knows me, the topic of health and weight came up. I asked them what their secret was to staying thin after the age of 50.

Both of these thin women said that they only use coconut oil. Both also said they have no problem with sugar cravings, in fact, hardly ever desire sugary foods. They both said they could take it or leave it. THAT perked my ears up!

It never occurred to me that there would be a benefit of coconut oil for health or sugar cravings. Because previously I was under the impression that it was not good for you. That it would clog your arteries and lead to heart attacks. Their response to me when I said that: "that is so 80's". They said that was "old information" and that new research shows coconut oil as being a good fat. Both were adamant that was not so. Both thought that their lack of desire for sweets was because they were satisfied with the coconut oil.

That conversation started me searching for the benefit(s) of coconut oil. And I found some really interesting information.

Coconut oil is highly nutritious and possesses fiber, vitamins and minerals. It is classified as a "functional food" since it does provide many health benefits. Among Asian and Pacific populations, it is called "The Tree of Life" and is used as a source of food and medicine.

The benefits that stood out to me where:

*Helps prevent periodontal disease and tooth decay.

* Is a protective antioxidant.

* Help prevent premature aging.

* Is lower in calories than other oils.

* Promotes loss of excess weight by increasing metabolic rate.

* Is used by the body to produce energy rather than stored as body fat.

* Is completely non-toxic to humans.

* Supports thyroid function.

* Reduces symptoms of eczema and dermatitis.

Now that you have some more information, you can decide for yourself if coconut oil is something you may want to try. I have started to use it and like working with it in cooking my veggies in the morning and in casseroles. I am using it for 60 consecutive days to see if it will make a difference in my eczema. For sure I can tell you that in the 5 days I have been using it, I have not had one sweet treat.
