People who have felt the depression that comes with a numeric growth on the weighing scale understands the dilemma that comes along with fasting to lose weight. Today, obesity has become one of the biggest reasons for preventable deaths all over the world, especially in developed or developing countries. People have not only started to consume more unhealthy foods, they have also been under constant bombardment of fast food advertising.

Moreover, they are enveloped by fast food chains all around them, luring them towards foods which are good to taste but bad for the wellbeing of the body. Maybe it is this increase in the number of options for unhealthy food, or maybe it is the general unawareness towards self health, but it stands a fact that obesity has become rampant in the present society, and thus the need for losing weight has now become more important than ever.

This increase in general body weight of the average individual in society has also led to many people trying to lose weight as much as they can and as fast as they can. Fat, as described by popular media and misunderstood by society at large, has been labeled the quintessential villain of all food stuff. One has to understand that like proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates, fat is also a nutrient and is needed by the body in a specific quantity.

This misunderstanding of fat has led to an increase in methods of losing weight which have an instantaneous noticeable reaction, but in the long run may cause severe health problems. Along with these there have come up many good and effective methods of losing body weight as well, but these are generally ones which take a longer period of time to show any effect, but do not lead o problems in the future. Fasting to lose weight is one method that is stuck in between these two criteria, where people as well as researchers all over the globe are divided on their opinions towards it.

Fasting to lose weight has several pros and cons. Many believe that fasting causes the body to be deprived of essential nutrients, which leads to a lower amount of energy in the body. Many others believe that fasting actually increases the metabolism of the body, allowing the body to digest food better. It should be noted that almost everybody is clear about the fact that fasting should be done only for a day or two at a stretch and fasting for more than that time period can lead to several medical problems.

There are several methods of fasting to lose weight which are proposed by experts all over the world. One method is to decrease the overall calorie intake per meal by merely 25%, although one had to take care that they intake all the vital nutrients required the body. This method leads to a state where the body is tricked to think that it is starving but actually it really isn't. This method leads to an increase in blood insulin levels, which further leads to better blood sugar level controls, and can also help avoid diseases in the future.

Benefits Of fasting:

Fasting provides rest to the digestive organs. It also detoxifies and cleanses the body. Moreover, fasting frees energy which is then utilized to maintain and repair tissues, cells and organs and at the same time rid the body of toxins and metabolic wastes thus purifying the overall body. Furthermore, elimination of toxins leads to mental clarity, alertness and a feeling of light-weight. Fasting also helps to lower cholesterol and aids in preventing gastrointestinal disorders. All these fasting benefits lead to effective weight loss.

Cons of Fasting:

Once the body stops receiving its regular quota of carbohydrates the body will suspect a drought and therefore, the body will try to store energy in the form of fats around the body. This will lead to a sudden fluctuation in weight which is not recommended for the heart. Also, deprived of vital protein, amino acids, vitamins and minerals; the body will lose its efficiency.

Similarly, drop in blood sugar level will result in lethargy and tiredness. Also, with a dip in the levels of iron can reduce the quantity of oxygen in the blood which is detrimental. This can also cause low blood pressure that can cause giddiness and other health problems. Therefore, weight loss due to prolong fasting can have severe effects.

Overall, occasional fasting in a secure manner can enhance energy effectiveness and protein fusion which aids to lose weight efficiently however, weekly fasting is not at all advisable and it is recommended that you keep fasting under 48 hours. Also, it is highly imperative that you consult a physician before fasting as it can have harsh side effects.
