4 Reasons Why You Can't Lose Weight

by Eunice Mwangiin Health / Weight Loss    (submitted 2012-01-29)

If you are one of the millions of people the world over who are constantly battling with their weight set aside a few moments now to give some thought to why this is. The reasons are in many instances so evident that it's easy to miss them completely.

In this post I'm going to propose four reasons why you may be overweight and how to deal with them.

Reason 1: You're not eating the right kind of breakfast foods

Research shows that those individuals who usually consume a healthy and balanced breakfast find it easier to control their weight. If you eat breakfast but often find yourself feeling hunger pangs again 2 hours later it may well be you're not eating the right variety of foods in the morning. Think about what you have for breakfast on an average day. Be truthful. Is it full of fat, salt or sugar? Is it short on fibre? Is it healthy and balanced or are you loading up with empty calories? Or worse still, do you avoid breakfast completely?

If you want to ensure you have the energy you need to cope with your active day you should make an effort to include things like complex carbohydrates in your breakfast. Foods that are rich in fibre are likely to belong to this class. Porridge oats are a perfect choice, and whole fiber and bran based cereals that are not as easy to absorb and take your body longer to digest. The process of digestion needs time to work and you will continue to feel satisfied while your body is carrying out this task.

Many people eat insufficient fibre and an excess of sugary food, in particular at breakfast time and this is why we feel hungry more quickly than we are expecting.

Reason 2: You're bored

Most snacking occurs due to boredom. We have all been guilty of it. Sometimes we don't even take note that we've munched our way through a huge bag of crisps. It's a destructive habit to get caught in and a difficult one to escape. The smart thing to do is to try to distract yourself when you find yourself with nothing to do. Play cards or a game, take a stroll, read the sunday paper or start that new knitting pattern. I always keep a small book of sudoku puzzles with me to keep myself entertained so I'm not tempted to snack whenever I'm at a loose end. If you have lots of time to spare, try volunteering at a local charitable organization or join a class and learn something new and useful.

Reason 3: You're eating too fast

It does take 10 - 15 minutes for the tummy to convey to your brain that it's full. Many of us eat our meal way too quickly, consequently consuming more than we actually need. Our brain hasn't had sufficient time to register the food we have consumed. Take things slower. Play some restful music as you eat, or make time to chat about your day with family members and friends over a leisurely dinner. By going slower you will enjoy your food more and greatly improve digestion and when you finish your meal, you can expect to feel fuller and more satisfied.

Thanks to busier life styles, a lot of us are starving hungry by the point we sit down for our lunch or dinner. Carry a healthy snack with you so that you can keep hunger under control until mealtimes. Taking the edge of your hunger will mean you are less likely to wolf down your food too quickly.

Reason 4: You're depressed

A number of people eat because they are unhappy or down. Food can provide comfort but it won't remedy anything and will in all probability makes things worse if the primary reason for your depression is because you're dissatisfied with your weight and your body. If you think maybe you're eating because you are low, speak about it to someone, a friend, family member or your doctor and open up about your problems. Being overweight can get you down in the dumps but only you have the power to change your downs to ups. About the Author

What If You Can't Lose Weight? Try The Following

BySandra Essex

Expert Author Sandra Essex

If you are having trouble losing weight, it's possible that there are some things you're not doing right. Yes, there are a few instances when inability to lose weight may be down to clear genetic anomalies. But I suggest that you don't conclude that that's your case unless first you've sincerely done your part of the weight loss bargain.

For starters, how strong is your commitment and determination to lose weight? By that, I'm not saying you have to sacrifice an arm and a leg to achieve it. But as Barack Obama states in one of his books, 'if we aren't willing to pay a price for what we want, if we aren't willing to make some sacrifices in order to realize them, then we need to ask ourselves whether we truly believe in those things in the first place.'

You surely know that, in the final analysis, losing weight can be reduced to watching your food and working your body. So, could it be that you are not sticking to your exercise and diet program? Why not take a second look around yourself? If you notice that there are still some unhealthy foodstuff around you, get rid of them, and replace with healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy snacks-such as nuts. Your fats should mostly come from olive oil and fish.

Next, evaluate your physical exercises. If you are not exercising vigorously enough, you're going to have trouble losing weight, especially if you are considerably overweight to begin with. 20 minutes, 3 times-a-week of aerobic exercise is the minimum recommendation. But fitness experts recommend more frequent workouts for those needing to lose more weight.

In addition, you should also include both cardio and strength training exercises. Cardio exercises will speed up your weight loss, while strength training will tone up your muscles and increase your bone density. You may consider joining fitness groups for consistency and greater results. If you are starting an aerobic exercise for the first time, ensure you get your doctor's opinion.

You also need to watch HOW you eat. Besides the food you eat, which should be carefully chosen to begin with, when you eat them the quantity consumed also matter. Unknown to many, metabolism play a large part in weight loss. It happens that your metabolism determines what portion of what you eat is used up as energy and which portion is stowed away in your body as fats. If most of what you consume is burned up by your body as fuel (energy) you are very unlikely to add much weight. But if the reverse is the case, then you'll have weight issues to contend with.

The way out is to eat at such times of the day when you are most active, thus giving your body the greatest chance of converting the calories to energy. Best timing include morning and afternoon, in that order. Also, some 30 minutes before exercise sessions. Worst time to eat for weight loss is night. And I suppose we both know why: the body is mostly at rest.

So before concluding that your inability to lose weight is due to some biological disorders, I suggest you try the approaches discussed here. Show greater commitment to your exercises, eat reasonably by watching what you eat and when you eat.

Diet is a very important factor for the survival of a People. A good diet is based upon the organic elements that give and sustain life. Daily Nutritional Cleansing is the key to your good health and WEIGHT LOSS. Many people take the human body and its functions lightly. They do not consider what they consume as having a direct and permanent effect on the quality of their overall health. Remember you are what you eat.
